Enterprise APK not auto-updating on Android kiosk devicesSolved

I updated an enterprise APK in the Hexnode app inventory, but the Android devices in kiosk mode are still showing the older app version. The app is already part of the kiosk policy, and I had to manually update it on one phone. Is there something else required for enterprise APK updates to install automatically on Android kiosk devices?

Hello @josiah ,

For Android enterprise APKs, replacing the APK in the Hexnode app inventory is only one part of the update process.

To push the updated APK automatically, the app must also be configured under Required Apps in the Android policy associated with the device. Adding the app only to the kiosk app list controls which apps are available in kiosk mode, but it does not necessarily handle app installation or updates.

Please check the Android kiosk policy assigned to the device and configure the app as a required app:

  1. Open the Android kiosk policy.
  2. Click Manage > Modify.
  3. Go to Android > App Management > Required Apps.
  4. Click Configure.
  5. Click + Add App.
  6. Select the enterprise APK app.
  7. Save the policy.

After the policy is saved, Hexnode UEM will sync the required app configuration with the device. The app update should be installed during the next policy/app sync cycle, which can take up to around 3 hours.

You can also check the device action history for entries such as policy association and application installation/update. If those actions show as successful, the app update should be applied on the device.
