cannot delete a private app from managed Google play in hexnodeSolved

I’m managing Android enterprise apps through Hexnode and have a private app listed under Managed google apps. I want to remove the old private app and upload a different APK, but I don’t see any delete or remove option when I open the app.

When I click Edit, it only asks me to upload another APK file. Uploading a different apk either as a new app or as a modification to the existing private app results in an error. Do private apps in the Managed google play iframe need to be deleted before uploading a new APK?

Hi @yu-yan,

Private apps published through the Managed Google Play iframe cannot be permanently deleted directly from the Hexnode UEM portal once they are created.

If you no longer want to use an existing private app, your best option is to unpublish it. Unpublishing prevents the app from being available for new installations through Managed Google Play.

To unpublish the app:

  1. Open the private app in the Managed Google Play iframe in Hexnode UEM.
  2. Select the Advanced edits option. This will open the Google-managed Play Console interface.
  3. From there, locate the App Availability settings and choose to unpublish the app.

Don’t forget to also remove the app from any Hexnode app groups, policies, or deployment configurations where it is currently assigned! If you strictly need the app record permanently deleted from Google’s servers, you will need to contact Managed Google Play support directly.

I ran into this exact same issue a while back. I was looking under the normal “Edit” option and only saw the Apk upload page, not any delete option. So, the “Advanced edits” link is the only place to actually unpublish it?

Hi @mo-chou,

Yes, exactly! The regular “Edit” option inside the iframe is primarily just for uploading an updated version of the existing APK. It does not provide any management actions like deleting or unpublishing.

Also, keep in mind that if you are trying to upload a completely different APK (with a different package name or signing key), Google will reject it if you try to push it as an update to the old app. In that scenario, your best bet is to unpublish the old app via “Advanced edits” and then create a brand-new private app entry for the new APK.

Please let me know if you run into any errors during the upload process!

Got it. I’ll try unpublishing it through Advanced edits and create a new entry for the fresh APK, then check with Google if I need the old one fully removed. Thanks for the breakdown!
