Reconfigure Google Authenticator on one Android tablet when it is installed as a required appSolved

I have Google Authenticator installed on an Android tablet through a required app policy. The policy is assigned to a custom device group with several tablets, so I do not want to remove the app from the policy or affect the other devices. I only need to reset Google Authenticator on one tablet so it can be configured again like a new app. Is there a way to temporarily remove or reset the app only on that specific device?

Yes @juan_garcia. If the goal is only to reconfigure Google Authenticator on a single Android tablet, you do not need to remove the policy or remove the device from the device group.

Use one of the device-level actions instead:

Option 1: Clear app data

This is usually the recommended option when you want the app to behave like a fresh setup.

  1. Go to Manage > Devices.
  2. Open the specific Android tablet.
  3. Click Actions > Applications > Clear App Data.
  4. Search for Google Authenticator and confirm the action.

This clears the local app data only on that tablet, allowing Google Authenticator to be configured again.

Option 2: Reinstall the app

If clearing app data does not help:

  1. Go to Manage > Devices.
  2. Open the specific tablet.
  3. Click Actions > Applications > Uninstall Application.
  4. Select Google Authenticator and uninstall it.

After the uninstall completes, use Actions > Applications > Install Application to install it again.

Both actions apply only to the selected device and do not require changes to the required app policy.

I was considering removing the tablet from the device group first and then uninstalling the app. Would that be a better approach?

Removing the tablet from the device group can work, but it is usually unnecessary for this case.

If the policy is assigned through that group, removing the tablet from the group may also remove other apps, restrictions, and configurations associated with the policy from that tablet. That could be more disruptive than needed.

For resetting only Google Authenticator on one Android device, Clear App Data is the cleaner option. It targets just the app data on the selected tablet while keeping the policy and group assignment unchanged.
