Hi @mo-chou,
This behavior is usually caused by Apple’s restrictions around Managed Apple Accounts, not by an app block or allow list in Hexnode. Managed Apple Accounts are organization-controlled Apple accounts and do not have the same App Store purchase and update capabilities as personal Apple Accounts. Because of this, users may not be able to manually install or update App Store apps such as Slack using a Managed Apple Account.
There are two common ways to handle this:
- Manual update using a personal Apple Account: If the app was installed manually from the App Store, the user would need to update it using a personal Apple Account.
- Managed update using Apple Business Manager / VPP: For organization-owned or managed devices, the recommended approach is to deploy Slack as a VPP app through Hexnode. To do this, make sure:
- The app is available in Apple Business.
- The VPP token is configured in Hexnode.
- There are enough VPP licenses for the app.
- The iOS device is supervised.
- The app is added to a Required Apps policy in Hexnode.
Once deployed as a required VPP app, Hexnode can handle installation and updates without relying on the user’s Managed Apple Account.
