Bulk disenroll inactive devices in Hexnode and reclaim licensesSolved

We have a large number of inactive devices showing in Hexnode and want to remove or disenroll them so the licenses can be used for new devices. Is there a recommended way to bulk disenroll inactive devices from the portal? Since most of them are offline, I’m not sure whether the disenroll command will complete or if there’s another step needed to free up the licenses.

Hi @vance_j !

You can handle this directly from the Hexnode portal using a two-step process.

First, queue the disenrollment command for the inactive devices:

  1. Go to Manage.
  2. Use the Inactive filter to list inactive devices.
  3. Select the required devices using the checkboxes. You can use the master checkbox for bulk selection.
  4. Go to Actions > Device Control > Disenroll Device.

This queues the disenrollment command. Since the devices are inactive, the command will be executed only when the devices come online.

Before doing this, make sure the target devices are not locked in Kiosk Mode and that Factory Reset Protection is not enabled, as these can affect future device setup or reuse.

Just to confirm, if the devices are offline, selecting Disenroll Device alone won’t immediately free the licenses, right? The command just stays pending until the device checks in?

Correct. For inactive or offline devices, the disenrollment command remains pending because the device has not received or acknowledged it yet.

If the goal is to immediately reclaim licenses for devices that are no longer in use,

  1. Go to Reports > Built-in Reports.
  2. Open Disenrollment Pending Devices.
  3. Select the devices.
  4. Click Actions > Mark as Disenrolled.

That updates their status in the portal and frees the licenses.

This worked for us. After filtering the inactive devices, sending the bulk disenroll command, and then marking them as disenrolled from the Disenrollment Pending Devices report, the licenses were returned to the available pool.
