I finally got fed up with my “Required Apps” list looking like a junk drawer, and spent yesterday moving most of our fleet to a “Pull” model using Hexnode’s App Catalogs. Basically, I just dumped all our approved tools into a private storefront. Now, if someone needs something, they just “shop” for it in the Hexnode app on their own time.
If you aren’t doing this yet, do your sanity a favor. Anyone else using catalogs for specific teams?

We use it heavily for BYOD (Bring Your Own Device). We don’t want to bloat personal phones with work apps. We provide a “Work App Store” via the portal. Employees only download Slack or Outlook if they choose to work from their phone.
We did this for our macOS fleet. The biggest win for us was security. Since the Hexnode agent executes the installation with system-level privileges, our users don’t need local admin rights to install these approved apps.
Just finished setting this up for our Sales team. I grouped their CRM, mileage tracker, and presentation tools into one catalog. It’s much cleaner than having 15 icons pop up on their home screen the moment they enroll.
One question: If I update the app version in the Hexnode App Inventory, does it automatically show the new version in the portal?
Yes! Once you update the binary in the App Inventory, the “Storefront” reflects the new version.
