Hey everyone! We’re looking into scaling our onboarding and I keep seeing “Microsoft Entra ID” integration. Can someone break down why I should use this instead of just uploading CSVs? Also, what’s the actual “day one” setup look like?

Hi @mo-chou,

Integrating Microsoft Entra ID with Hexnode UEM is a strategic move for any IT department looking to scale. By bridging your directory services with your UEM portal, you eliminate manual overhead and ensure your security policies remain synchronized with your organizational structure.

Key Integration Benefits

  • Automated User Import: Synchronize users and groups directly from your directory. This eliminates the need for manual CSV uploads and mirrors your existing organizational structure in the MDM portal instantly.
  • Self-Service & Zero-Touch Readiness: Empowers employees to enroll devices using their existing corporate credentials. This is essential for Windows Autopilot workflows, allowing for a seamless “out-of-the-box” onboarding experience.
  • Dynamic Management & Security: Automatically assign policies based on Entra ID group memberships. Furthermore, if a user is disabled in Entra ID, they can be automatically blocked from accessing corporate data via Hexnode, ensuring secure and instant offboarding.
  • Attribute-Based Filtering: Use filters (such as Department or Location) to ensure only specific user segments are synchronized, allowing for granular control over which directory members are imported into the UEM.

Prerequisites

  • Global Administrator Account: Required for Microsoft Entra ID to grant initial “Admin Consent.”
  • Hexnode UEM Portal: Administrative privileges are required to access integration settings.

Implementation Guide

Step 1: Authorize Hexnode in the Microsoft Entra Portal

  1. Log in to your Hexnode UEM Portal.
  2. Navigate to Admin > Integrations.
  3. Click on Microsoft Entra ID.
  4. A window will appear prompting for your organization’s Microsoft Entra custom domain or Directory (Tenant) ID.
  5. Enter the details and click Configure.
  6. You will be redirected to sign in with your Microsoft Entra ID credentials.
  7. A permissions pop-up will appear for the Hexnode Azure Directory Services app. Ensure you check the box and click Accept.
  8. You will be redirected back to Hexnode, confirming the integration is complete.

Step 2: Configure Sync Settings

  1. Navigate to Admin > Microsoft Entra ID, where your domain will now appear as a tile.
  2. Click the Settings (gear icon) on the domain tile to define your sync parameters.
  3. To automate the process, click into the tile and enable Scheduled Sync. This ensures the user list is updated periodically without manual intervention.

Step 3: Manual Sync & Verification

  1. To import your directory immediately, navigate to Admin > Microsoft Entra ID and click the Sync icon on your domain tile.
  2. Click Next and proceed to the Sync Target screen to choose specific groups or the entire directory.
  3. Once completed, verify the import by navigating to the Manage tab to view your synced users and groups.
