Hello! I’m setting up a fleet of Android tablets for a check-in station. I have the devices locked down, but I can’t figure out how to make the installed camera and gallery apps available while in kiosk mode. Every time my main app tries to open the camera, it just hangs. Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried restarting the router? Sometimes the sync gets stuck if the Wi-Fi signal is weak.

Thanks for raising this question.

The setup for this depends on how you want the user to interact with those apps. You essentially have two paths depending on your kiosk configuration:

1. If you want the icons visible on the Kiosk screen

If your users need to manually tap an icon to open the Camera or Gallery, you must add them as visible apps:

  • Go to Policies and edit your existing Kiosk policy.

  • Navigate to Android Kiosk Mode > Multi App Kiosk.

  • Click Add App and select the Camera and Gallery apps from your list.

The icons will now appear on the device’s home screen for the user to select.

2. If you only need the apps to work in the background

If you are using a Single App Kiosk (where only your business app is visible) and that app needs to trigger the camera or view files without the user leaving the main screen:

  • In your policy, go to Android Kiosk Mode > Background Apps.

  • Add the Camera and Gallery apps here.

This allows your primary Kiosk app to “call” the camera function. The system will permit the process to run without blocking it, but it keeps the home screen clean and prevents users from browsing the full gallery or camera settings independently.

Let us know which method works best for your use case!
