Hey folks, when employees leave the company we usually reassign their laptops. Problem is, most of them have BitLocker enabled. Is there a way Hexnode can just un‑encrypt the drives remotely so we don’t have to do it manually?

Yeahthat’s a pain. We had to keep entering recovery keys during OS reinstalls. Would be great if Hexnode could handle the decryption part.

Hello everyone, thanks for bringing this up.

Yes, Hexnode supports remote decryption of BitLocker drives through the Force BitLocker decryption action. This can be initiated from the portal by navigating to Manage > [Select device] > Actions > Security > Force BitLocker decryption

In the Force BitLocker decryption dialog box, configure the following settings:

  • Decrypt all drives: Select this to decrypt all fixed and removable drives.
  • Decrypt fixed drives: Select to target only internal data drives.
  • Decrypt removable drives: Select to target external storage (e.g., USB drives).
  • Decrypt specific drives: Manually enter drive names (e.g., D:, E:) separated by commas.
  • Clear auto-unlock: Required for OS drive decryption if auto-unlock is active. This removes automatic unlocking keys from the OS drive to allow the decryption process to proceed.

Once configured, click Proceed.

For even more detailed guidance, refer to our guide on the Force BitLocker decryption action.
