Realized AirTags won’t work with Managed Apple IDs — Any Workarounds?Solved

Our logistics team is planning to purchase a batch of Apple AirTags to help track delivery routes and equipment moving between our warehouses. The idea was to attach them to containers and vehicles so we could monitor their movement through the Find My network.

However, we just realized something that might be a problem. Our organization uses Managed Apple IDs, and apparently these accounts don’t support the Find My feature. Since AirTags rely on Find My to function, we’re now stuck with devices we can’t actually use in our setup.

Has anyone run into this before? We’re trying to see if there are any workarounds or alternative approaches that still allow us to track assets without switching to personal Apple IDs.

AirTags unfortunately depend completely on the Find My ecosystem, and Managed Apple IDs currently don’t support that feature. That pretty much blocks them from being used in most enterprise-managed environments unless you switch to personal Apple IDs, which most IT teams understandably want to avoid.

What we ended up doing was switching to Google-compatible trackers like Tile instead. They use their own mobile app and ecosystem rather than Apple’s Find My network, so they don’t rely on Apple IDs at all. The setup was actually pretty straightforward, and the UI is fairly simple for our logistics staff to use.

If your main goal is asset tracking rather than specifically using Apple hardware, it might be worth giving those a look. It solved the problem for us without needing to change any of our device management policies.
