Is anyone automating contact imports on devices?Solved

We’ve been exploring the Import Contacts action in Hexnode UEM Automations, but I’m curious how others are actually using it.

Our idea was to automatically push a shared contact list to company phones, so employees always have key numbers like IT support, HR, and emergency contacts saved.

Has anyone tried automating this? Does it work well at scale?

Yep, we do something similar for our field technicians. Whenever a new device enrolls, an automation triggers the Import Contacts action and adds a list of internal support numbers.

It saves a ton of time because technicians no longer have to manually add contacts. If something goes wrong in the field, they instantly have the helpdesk number ready.

We actually use it for a different scenario — temporary project teams.

When we deploy devices for a short-term project, we import a contact list that includes the project manager, site supervisors, and emergency numbers. Once the project ends, we update the list with another automation.

Makes coordination way easier since everyone has the right contacts from day one.

Interesting. We’re using it mostly for frontline staff.

Our retail employees need quick access to store managers and regional supervisors. So, whenever devices are assigned to the “Retail Devices” group, an automation imports the store contact directory automatically.

No more “Hey, what’s the manager’s number again?” moments 😅.

For us, it’s about consistency.

Whenever new employees receive company phones, the onboarding automation imports a standardized contact list: HR, IT support, security desk, and a few key internal departments.

It’s a small thing, but it prevents confusion and ensures everyone has the right numbers from the start.

That actually sounds pretty useful. I hadn’t thought about tying it to device groups or onboarding workflows.

Yeah, and one tip: keep the contact list updated in a single file and re-run the import when numbers change.

Otherwise, you end up with outdated contacts across dozens of devices 😬.

Exactly. Automating it means you only maintain one source of truth instead of fixing contacts on every device manually. Once we started doing that, managing company directories became way easier.
