Advanced website kiosk using ChromeSolved

Hi all,

We’re setting up a few Android tablets in kiosk mode for our retail stores. The plan is to use Chrome as a web app and restrict users so they can only access our product catalog site.

One concern, some of our documents (brochures, warranty info) are hosted as PDFs on the same domain. If we lock it down with URL restrictions, will those PDFs still open properly?

Hi @ronnie,

With Advanced Website Kiosk Settings on Android, you can deploy Chrome as a web app and configure URL allowlisting. This ensures the device can only access the specific domain you define. Any other URL will be blocked.

If your PDFs are hosted under that same allowlisted domain, Chrome will render them directly within the browser session. The device won’t exit kiosk mode or open a separate app.

For more information, check out the help documentation on advanced website kiosk settings.

Following this, we’re planning something similar for our visitor check-in kiosks. The website we want to display sometimes loads content from different pages within the same domain.

If we configure Chrome in kiosk mode, will users still be able to navigate between those internal pages?

Hi @gnishilda,

Yes, they will.

When Chrome is deployed as a web app in kiosk mode with URL allowlisting, the device can access any pages that fall under the URLs or domains you define.

This means users will be able to navigate between different pages within the same approved website, while any links pointing to external domains will be blocked automatically.

That works for us. We just needed the catalog and related PDFs accessible, nothing else. Thanks for confirming.
