PDF Access Issue in Kiosk ModeSolved

Hi everyone, we’re using Android devices in kiosk mode through Hexnode UEM. Recently, we noticed that PDF files stopped opening on these devices. Whenever users try to open a PDF, they get an “access denied” message. This is affecting our daily work.

There is a PDF reader installed on the device, and I believe it’s part of the kiosk policy, but I’m not sure how it was added. I’m also unable to share many screenshots of the policy right now. Any guidance would help.

Hello, thank you for reaching out.

On Android devices in Multi-app Kiosk mode, apps must be explicitly allowed in the kiosk policy to work properly. An “access denied” error usually indicates that the PDF reader app is either not included in the allowed apps list or is being restricted by the kiosk policy.

Please check:

  • Ensure the PDF reader is added under the Kiosk > Android Kiosk > Multi-app Kiosk section of the policy.
  • Verify if the PDF reader’s Bundle ID is listed under AndroidApp Management > Blocklist in any policy applied to the device.

Also, please initiate a Scan Device action from the Hexnode UEM portal.

That fixed it. After adding the PDF reader package name to the allowed apps, PDFs are opening normally now.

Looks like the app was installed but not properly allowed in the kiosk policy. Thanks for your help.
