How do I activate VPN on Hexnode managed Android Enterprise devices? The toggle in Hexnode for Work keeps disabling itself.
Activate VPN permissionSolved

I had a similar headache last week. Thought it was my network, but nope..same toggle issue.
Maybe it’s something to do with app permissions? I once had to clear cache and it magically worked for me.
Thanks for the input, everyone.
You can enable VPN in two different ways:
Method 1: Enrollment Profile
To activate VPN on Hexnode‑managed Android Enterprise devices, you need to configure it in the Enrollment profile. Navigate to Enroll > Android > Android Enterprise > Enrollment profile > App configuration and enable the Auto enable setting for VPN. Please note that this setting applies only to new enrollments. Existing or re‑enrolled devices will not inherit this configuration, which is why the toggle disables immediately on those devices.
Method 2: Policy Configuration
-
Login to the Hexnode UEM.
-
Go to the Policies section.
-
Create a new policy or edit an existing one.
-
Select Android Enterprise in the policy editor.
-
Expand the Network settings and choose VPN.
-
Configure the VPN profile by entering server details, protocol, and authentication credentials.
-
Add optional settings such as DNS, routing, or proxy.
-
Enable advanced options like Always‑On VPN, VPN Lockdown, or Bypass Lockdown if required.
-
Save the policy.
-
Associate the policy with the target devices or groups.

Ah, so re‑enrolling doesn’t fix it either. That explains why the toggle keeps flipping off.
Yeah, I ended up pushing a separate VPN policy instead. Works better than relying on that auto‑enable option.
