Is there a way to batch-edit or import large policies?Solved

Hey everyone, I’m dealing with a pretty large policy in Hexnode, lots of configurations, restrictions, and conditions bundled together. Making changes directly in the console has started to feel a bit risky. One wrong click and something breaks.

I was wondering if there’s any way to define or edit a policy offline using some sort of syntax or template, review it carefully, and then load it back into Hexnode. Hand-editing everything in the UI feels tedious and error-prone, especially as the policy grows.

Hi, thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

At the moment, Hexnode doesn’t support creating or editing policies offline and importing them back into the system. Policies need to be created and modified directly through the console UI, so defining them externally and loading them in isn’t possible right now.

That said, there is a safer workaround you can use to avoid impacting devices that are already working fine.

You can clone your existing policy and use the cloned version as a sort of working template. Since templates aren’t associated with devices, you can freely make and review all your changes there without affecting anything in production.

Once you’re confident the changes are good, you can then apply this updated policy to devices or groups. If you’re using a device group, especially a dynamic group, you can switch over policies cleanly by associating the new one and removing the old policy, without unintended side effects.

This approach will help roll out incremental changes while keeping existing devices stable.

I hope this helps, if you need further assistance, feel free to reach out — happy to help.

Best regards,
George
