Hey everyone, our school’s iPads use apps purchased through the Volume Purchase Program and suddenly one of the apps notified us that it required to be updated to continue working. Since our iPads are managed through Hexnode, should I delete and purchase the app through School Manager again and add to Hexnode for the update to happen? Or is there some other way to do it?
How do I update a VPP app on my iPads?Solved

Hey @sybylla , Is the said VPP app listed as a required app under the Required Apps policy?
Currently this app is not listed as a required app, does it mean I will have to delete the app from the tablets?
@sybylla , apps purchased through the Volume Purchase Program for your Apple School Manager can be added to devices in two ways, and the update mechanism differs between the two.
If the app was added to your devices under the Required Apps policy for iPadOS through Hexnode UEM, the app will be updated automatically without the need for manual intervention. However, you can check for the latest updates to your VPP apps from the Hexnode console. Navigate to the Apps tab and then to Local Apps. Here from the filter menu, select the License type as VPP. From the results, select your app to open its details page. Here click on the gear icon in the top right corner and then select Check for Updates. If an update is available, it will be installed automatically.
If the app was added using the Install Application remote action, then the update will not happen automatically. The app needs to be reinstalled back to the devices using the same remote action (Navigate to Manage tab > Select your devices > Actions > Install application). The VPP app will be reinstalled to the devices with the latest version.

Oh, what a relief to know that I don’t have to uninstall the app first to get the updated version! I successfully updated the app. And just so I don’t have to worry about it anymore, I added the said app to the Required Apps policy for the iPads. Thanks, @elle_reed !
