Android TV enrollment stuck on “Activate VPN” screen – any fix?Solved

Hey everyone,  

We’re trying to enroll an Android TV (Android 11) using Hexnode MDM for Android. The enrollment goes through normally until it reaches the Activate VPN screen. But when we click on the Activate VPN button, nothing happens; the TV just stays on that page. All permissions except Battery Optimization were granted. We even tried using Hexnode Onboarder, but the TV doesn’t have a wireless debugging option. 

Has anyone faced something similar or has any suggestions?

Hey @gnishilda,

Yep, this can happen on some Android TV models where the UI doesn’t properly register “clicks” on prompts.

Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot this issue:

  1. Use the TV remote navigation keys (Up/Down/OK) instead of selecting the button with a cursor or click. This usually triggers the VPN activation properly.
  2. If you’d prefer to skip the VPN activation prompt, you can disable it from the Hexnode UEM console:

    Go to Admin > General Settings > Data Restriction (Android) and turn off Prompt to activate VPN.

    Once that’s disabled, the prompt won’t appear during enrollment.
