VPP app update status wrong

expand collapsive

The app update had happened but a wrong status shows in the Action History.

We have developed an app that is uploaded on the store app and added to our VPP account. Now, since we updated the app on apple store, I went to apps tab and clicked on Check for update on the app so that the app version will be updated; following this, we added the app in the mandatory app policy and deployed to all device. The app was updated to the latest version on the platform but the problem is on Action History it shows something like “device already has the updated version of the app”.
It is not a major problem for us interested to know what is happening backstage.

  • Hi @Otis, thanks for sharing your issue with us.

However, if you’re seeing this message on the Action History page, it would mean the app was already updated when the new attempt (through mandatory app policy) to update the app was made. This does not seem like an issue with Hexnode. Maybe the devices were configured to automatically update apps from the App Store, and the app was updated conveniently before the policy was deployed to those devices. If the case is otherwise, please feel free to reach out with more details.

  • Hey Zach, found out why it was happening. We had a previous policy with the same Mandatory app. That policy must have updated the apps, there was no need to add another Mandatory app policy. I thought maybe that policy will add and mandate the old version of the app. So, when the app was updated on the store, deleted that policy and added a new one with the updated version. The app must have updated in between.
Anyway, not an issue, the app was updated and all good. Thanks for the rply.

  • @Otis, you got it right! The mandatory app policy will make sure any update on the app (as updated on Hexnode) will be pushed automatically to the associated devices.

Note: If you had selected Remove apps from the device on policy removal, the app would have been removed when you disassociated the old policy.

    Cheers!
