Hi, I am currently trying to wipe a former employee’s Mac, but the device is stuck on a screen requiring a “Find my Mac PIN” to proceed. I don’t have this PIN on hand, and the user doesn’t know it either.

Is there a way to recover or locate this PIN within Hexnode so I can finish wiping the device? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Hello @ethan_,

When you initiate a wipe command for a Mac through the Hexnode portal, the system automatically generates a 6-digit PIN for security purposes. You can recover this PIN directly from your admin dashboard.

Here is how you can find it:

  1. Log in to your Hexnode portal.
  2. Navigate to Manage > Devices and select the Mac from your device list.
  3. Click on the Action History tab.
  4. Locate the recent Wipe Device command in the log.
  5. Click to view the details/remarks of that action. You will find the 6-digit PIN listed right there.

Simply enter that 6-digit PIN on the Mac’s prompt, and the device will continue with the wipe process.

Also worth mentioning, if you are dealing with a Mac that was tied to a user’s personal Apple Account and has Activation Lock enabled, this 6-digit Wipe PIN is different from the Activation Lock Bypass Code.

If it asks for the user’s Apple Account password after the wipe is complete, you’ll need to pull the Activation Lock Bypass code from the Device Summary page in Hexnode instead. Just a heads up in case you run into that next!

Thanks for the heads up on the Activation Lock.
