macOS device shows compliant even when required SentinelOne app is missingSolved

I have a macOS device where SentinelOne is set as a required app, but the app is missing and the device still shows as compliant in Hexnode.
I tried reinstalling SentinelOne through app deployment, but the install fails with this message:
“The install failed. The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. An error occurred while running scripts from the package.”
I expected the Mac to become non-compliant because a required app is missing. Is there another compliance setting needed for required apps?

Welcome to the Hexnode Community.

A device can still show as compliant even when a required app is missing if the compliance policy assigned to the device does not evaluate missing mandatory apps.

For this use case, create a custom macOS compliance policy and add an application compliance criterion:

1. Go to Policies > Compliance Policies.

2. Create a new compliance policy for macOS.

3. Open Advanced Settings.

4. Click + Add Criteria.

5. Set the condition as: Missing apps count > Greater than > 0.

6. Assign the policy to the required macOS devices or device groups.

7. Save the policy.

After this, any Mac missing one or more required apps targeted through the app management policy will be marked as non-compliant.

The SentinelOne installation failure is a separate issue. The package script error usually occurs when the SentinelOne installer cannot find the required site registration token at install time, or when remnants from an older/failed installation interfere with the new install. For SentinelOne on macOS, deploy a pre-installation script to create the registration token file at /var/tmp/com.sentinelone.registration-token before installing the PKG, or package the PKG and token together as a DMG for deployment.
