macOS App Store app stuck on Pending during deploymentSolved

Hi everyone. I attempted to deploy an App Store app to a macOS device, but the deployment status remained stuck on “Pending”. The Mac was actively checking in, licenses were available, and the user even restarted the device. Deploying the app from the Hexnode Store worked as a workaround, but I’d like to understand what causes standard App Store deployments to stall like this. Additionally, is there a way to manually clear or delete commands from the portal when they show as “Queued at device end”?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect!

For macOS App Store and VPP app deployments, a persistent “Pending” status usually indicates that the Apple VPP account metadata or license state in Hexnode needs to be refreshed. Even if the Mac is online and checking in, stale VPP data will prevent the deployment from proceeding. To resolve this, navigate to Admin > Apple Business Manager > Apple VPP, locate your active VPP account, and click the Sync icon. Once the sync completes, retry or monitor the deployment. (Deploying via the Hexnode Store remains a valid alternative if needed).

Regarding commands showing as Queued at device end, these cannot be manually cleared or deleted from the Hexnode portal. Once a command reaches this state, it has already been handed off to the macOS MDM queue, and the operating system processes these queued actions automatically when ready.
