Is there a quota on the app update pushes to devices?Solved

Hey everyone,

Quick question, when pushing updates to a Local Store App, is there any kind of limit or throttling on how many devices get the update at once?

We’ve got about 600 devices. The update went through fine initially and reached around 310 devices, but now it’s basically crawling, increasing by just 1–2 devices every 15–20 minutes.

Has anyone else seen this kind of behavior?

Hi, we manage around 1,000+ devices and updates always go in waves. First batch is quick, then it slows down a lot. Usually the remaining devices are either idle or offline, or on poor network. So, they don’t immediately pick up the update.

Hi @remi,

There’s actually no limit in deployment from the UEM side, you can target all 600 devices without restrictions.

The important thing to understand is that for Local Store Apps (especially when deployed as required apps), the UEM doesn’t directly install the update. Instead, the actual download and installation are handled by the device’s native app store (Google Play / Apple App Store). The UEM just tells the device that the app should be updated and then tracks the status.

Each device installs the update when it meets certain conditions like a stable internet connection, enough battery, and background services running correctly. So, what you’re seeing, fast progress at first, then slowing down, is pretty normal. The first batch updates quickly (devices that are active and ready), and the rest trickle in as they come online or meet the conditions.

If the progress is really stuck (like no movement for hours), then it’s worth checking:

  • Whether those devices are online
  • If Play Services/App Store access is working
  • Any restrictions on background data or battery optimization

But otherwise, slow tail-end updates like this are expected. Let us know if there are any more queries.
