iOS VPP apps not installing silently from Hexnode policySolved

I enrolled an iPhone into Hexnode and assigned our regular iOS policy, but two required App Store apps are not installing on the device. There are no errors shown, and the policy looks assigned correctly. Other settings seem to have applied, but these two apps just do not appear on the phone. What should I check for silent app installation on iOS?

Hello @benwhite ,

For iOS devices, silent installation of App Store apps through Hexnode UEM requires Apple VPP licenses, even if the apps are free.

Check whether VPP licenses have been acquired for the apps that are not installing. In Hexnode, open the app entry from the Apps section and verify whether licenses are available for deployment.

If the apps do not have VPP licenses, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to Apple Business or School Manager.
  2. Go to Apps & Services  > Apps & Books.
  3. Click on View store, and search for the required iOS app.
  4. Select the correct location under Assign to.
  5. Enter the number of licenses required and click Get. This is required even for free apps.
  6. In Hexnode, go to Admin > Apple Business/School Manager > Apple VPP.
  7. Click Sync to fetch the newly acquired licenses.
  8. After the sync completes, run Scan device and Scan for apps on the iPhone to trigger installation.

Once the VPP licenses are available in Hexnode, the apps should install silently without requiring an Apple ID on the device.
