Configuring a device’s boot process used to mean physically accessing it, digging into BIOS settings, and hoping nothing goes wrong along the way. Not anymore. We’re rolling out two new remote actions-Set Boot Order and Reset Boot Order that give admins full, remote control over how Windows devices boot — no on-site visits, no manual BIOS navigation, no waiting around. 

Whether you’re locking down security by disabling risky boot sources or simply undoing a configuration that’s outdated, these two actions put the entire boot process in your hands. 

  

Where to find them: Log in to the Hexnode UEM portal, go to Manage → Devices, select the required device(s), then head to Actions → BIOS Management to access Set Boot Order and Reset Boot Order.

Decide exactly how your devices boot. Prioritize boot sources, lock down which ones are even allowed to run at startup, and push the same configuration across multiple devices in one shot. Whether it’s keeping USB boot disabled for security or making sure devices always start from the right drive, it’s all in your hands now — remotely. 

 

Need a Clean Slate? Meet Reset Boot Order 

Custom boot configurations don’t always need to stick around. A device might get reassigned, move to a new team, or simply no longer need its current startup setup — and undoing that manually is tedious. Reset Boot Order skips all of that: with a single confirmation, the device is restored to its manufacturer-defined default sequence.
