Devices not updating after removing Wi-Fi settings from policySolved

hello, i am managing a fleet of warehouse devices and need some help. I recently had to remove the pre-configured wifi settings on our main hexnode policy so that the floor users can change and view available wifi networks themselves when moving between buildings.

I did this by just pressing the red X in the wifi settings of the policy and pressed save. I know the policy is saved, but this hasn’t made any change to the phones. How do i push this updated policy to the phone so they can actually change their network?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect! I understand how important it is to keep your warehouse devices connected and functional across different locations.

Since you have already saved the policy, the Hexnode server has registered the new version. However, devices usually wait for their next scheduled sync to pick up these changes. To push the update immediately and troubleshoot why the users still can’t switch networks, please follow these steps:

  • Force a Manual Sync: From your Hexnode console, navigate to the Manage tab. Select the affected devices, click on Actions, and select Scan Device. This commands the device to check in with the server immediately and pick up the latest policy.
  • Check Device Connectivity: Go to Manage > click on a specific device > Action History. Look for the recent Scan Device or Policy Update action. If the status remains stuck on Pending, it means the device is currently unresponsive to the server. Please ensure the device has an active internet connection (either via mobile data or the previous Wi-Fi network) so it can communicate with Hexnode to receive the new rules.
  • Verify Kiosk & Restriction Settings: If the action shows as Executed but the users still cannot change the Wi-Fi, the device is likely being blocked by another setting. If your devices are locked in a strict Kiosk Mode, or if you have Configure Wi-Fi disabled under the Advanced Restrictions of your policy, the user will be locked out of the network preferences even if the specific Wi-Fi configuration profile is removed. Double-check your policy’s restriction tab to ensure network modification is allowed.

Please let me know if forcing the sync resolves the issue, or if we need to look closer at your Kiosk configurations!

Best regards,
George,
