Deploy Microsoft Intune Company Portal on macOS when it is not available in VPPSolved

I’m trying to add Microsoft Intune Company Portal for deployment to managed Macs. I can find the app when searching under the iOS platform, but I don’t see it under macOS Store Apps or in Apple Business Manager/VPP.

Is the macOS version listed somewhere else, or is there another way to deploy Microsoft Company Portal to macOS devices through Hexnode?

Hi @joseph_jay ,

The Microsoft Intune Company Portal app behaves differently across Apple platforms.

The iOS version is available on the App Store, so it can appear under iOS Store Apps and can also be added through Apple Business/VPP.

For macOS, Microsoft does not distribute Company Portal as a Mac App Store/VPP app. Instead, Microsoft provides the macOS version as a standalone .pkg installer. Because of this, it will not appear when searching macOS Store Apps in Hexnode or when searching for a macOS VPP license in Apple Business.

To deploy it to Macs through Hexnode:

  1. Download the official macOS Company Portal .pkg installer from Microsoft.
  2. In the Hexnode UEM portal, go to Apps > Add Apps > Enterprise App.
  3. Select macOS and upload the .pkg file.
  4. Deploy it to devices using a Required Apps policy or the Install Application device action.

Apple VPP can only sync apps that are listed directly on the App Store. Since the macOS Company Portal app is not listed there, Enterprise App deployment is the correct method for macOS.

That makes sense. I was checking both the macOS Store App section and Apple Business Manager and couldn’t find it anywhere. So there’s no VPP license needed for the Mac version, right?

Correct @joseph_jay. A VPP license is only applicable if the app is available through the App Store and can be assigned in Apple Business.

For the macOS Company Portal .pkg, you do not need a VPP license. Treat it like a macOS enterprise application: upload the package to Hexnode UEM and assign it to the required devices or device groups.
