Deploy Microsoft Edge DMG to macOS when Hexnode Store is unavailableSolved

If Microsoft Edge is not available from the app list in your portal, you can use the manual DMG deployment method. Recommended approach:

1. Download the Microsoft Edge DMG for macOS from the official source.
2. Upload the DMG as a macOS enterprise app in Hexnode.
3. Deploy it to the required macOS device or device group using Install Application, a policy, or an automation workflow.

For custom installation settings, configure a success criterion so Hexnode can verify whether the installation completed successfully. Use:

• Success Criteria: App exists
• App Identifier: the bundle identifier of Microsoft Edge

If you do not know the App Identifier, install the app on one test Mac first. Then open the device in Hexnode, go to the Applications sub-tab, enable the available application inventory columns, and search for Microsoft Edge. The App Identifier will be shown there and can be reused in the enterprise app configuration.

What happens if I skip the App Identifier field? I tried saving the app without it and pushed it to one Mac. The action history shows the installation as successful.

Saving the enterprise app without the App Identifier can still work for a first-time installation, and the action may show as successful if the DMG installs correctly.

However, adding the App Identifier is better for reliable detection. It helps Hexnode confirm that the app exists on the Mac and makes it easier to verify deployment results, installed app details, and version information from the device’s Applications inventory.

After the test install, check the same Mac under Manage > device details > Applications and confirm that Microsoft Edge appears there with its app details/version.

Will the Mac ask the end user for admin credentials when Edge is installed from the DMG? Most of our users are standard users.

A local/manual DMG installation on macOS may require administrator credentials, especially if a standard user tries to copy the app into /Applications or if the DMG contains a package installer. When deploying through Hexnode as a managed enterprise app, the installation is initiated through device management rather than by the end user manually opening and installing the DMG. Still, it is a good idea to test the uploaded DMG on one managed Mac first and confirm the result from the device action history and Applications inventory before rolling it out broadly.
