Can we mix subscription tiers within the same portal?Solved

Hi everyone,

My organization is currently evaluating Hexnode for our upcoming deployment, and we are trying to map out our licensing costs. We have a mixed hardware environment: roughly 100 iPhones used by our field agents, and about 20 MacBooks for our in-house development team.

For the iPhones, the Pro plan covers absolutely everything we need, like basic device restrictions and store app deployment. However, for the MacBooks, we definitely need the Enterprise tier so we can push custom shell scripts and manage more complex macOS configurations.

My question is: does the subscription plan apply on a per-device basis, or is it tied to the organization’s portal as a whole? In other words, can we purchase 100 Pro licenses for the phones and 20 Enterprise licenses for the Macs within our single account? Or do we have to upgrade all 120 devices to the Enterprise tier to make this work?

Any insights would be appreciated before we finalize our budget!

Hello, Thanks for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

I understand your goal to optimize costs while ensuring both your field agents and development team have the specific management features they require.

Hexnode subscriptions are applied to the portal as a whole, rather than on a per-device basis.

As a workaround, you have two distinct paths you can take to manage your 120 devices:

Option 1: A Unified Enterprise Portal

You can purchase 120 Enterprise licenses for your single account. While this applies the higher tier to your iPhones as well, it provides you with a single pane of glass. Your IT team will be able to manage, monitor, and generate reports for all users and devices from one centralized dashboard.

Option 2: Two Separate Portals

If keeping licensing costs strictly optimized is the priority, you can create two separate Hexnode accounts. For example, Account A can be subscribed to the Enterprise plan strictly for your 20 MacBooks, while Account B can be set up on the Pro plan to manage your 100 iPhones. The trade-off here is that your administrators will need to switch between two different portals to manage your fleet.

Both approaches are widely used by our customers depending on whether they prioritize budget optimization or administrative convenience.

I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.

Best regards,
George,
