Can Hexnode remotely force iOS notification and privacy permissions?Solved

I’m managing a few iPhones with Hexnode and wanted to know if there’s a way to remotely give the Hexnode app full permissions, especially notification permissions. The goal is to make sure broadcast messages and other alerts show up without the user having to manually allow anything on the device. Is this possible through a policy, or does the user still need to approve it from the iPhone?

Hi @shirleyc ,

On iOS, MDM solutions cannot remotely grant full system permissions or bypass Apple’s app privacy prompts. Permissions such as Camera, Location, Microphone, Photos, and similar privacy access must be approved manually by the user on the device.

This behavior is enforced by iOS. Unlike macOS, where Privacy Preferences Policy Control profiles can be used for certain app permissions, iOS does not provide an equivalent MDM framework to silently grant these permissions.

For notifications, Hexnode can help configure notification preferences for managed apps using a policy:

  1. Go to Policies > iOS > App Management > App Notifications.
  2. Click Configure.
  3. Select the target application.
  4. Configure options such as Allow Notifications, badges, sounds, and banner style.
  5. Save the policy and associate it with the required iOS devices or device groups.

This can set or customize notification behavior, but it does not override all user-level choices enforced by iOS.

So if I apply the Notifications policy for the Hexnode app, can users still turn off notifications later from iPhone Settings? Or will the policy lock it in?

Users can still disable or remove notification permissions for the app on iOS. The Hexnode notification policy can configure notification settings, but Apple does not allow MDM to permanently force notification permission or prevent the user from changing it in all cases.

For broadcast messages or app alerts to appear reliably, the user must allow notifications on the device. There is currently no MDM workaround to force that permission without user interaction.
