Blocked apps not uninstalling on Samsung Knox Android devices in HexnodeSolved

I blocked a few apps on Samsung Knox Android devices from Hexnode UEM. They show as blocked/non-compliant, but the apps are still installed and users can still see or open them. I expected the block action to remove them.

What is the right way to uninstall apps remotely from these devices? Also, for new Android Enterprise devices, can QR code enrollment be used to skip the initial manual setup? I have one Android Enterprise enrollment profile and cannot create another one, so I’m wondering if the same QR profile can be reused and policies changed after enrollment.

Hi @elliot,

On Samsung Knox devices, blocklisting an app does not uninstall the app or hide its icon. If the app is already installed, the blocklist marks the device as non-compliant. If compliance notifications are enabled under Admin > Alert Profiles, administrators can receive alerts for such cases.

To remove the app from the device, use the remote uninstall action instead:

  1. Go to Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the Android device.
  3. Open the Applications sub-tab.
  4. Find the app you want to remove.
  5. Click the gear icon next to the app and choose Uninstall App.
  6. Confirm the action.

For enrollment, Android Enterprise QR code enrollment can be used on new or factory-reset devices. Scanning the QR code during the initial setup provisions the device as a fully managed Android Enterprise Device Owner device, so you do not have to complete the regular manual setup flow.

You can also enroll multiple devices using the same Android Enterprise enrollment profile. After enrollment, policies can be assigned or changed for individual devices or device groups, depending on the features available in your Hexnode plan.

So the blocklist is more of a compliance check and not a removal command? That explains why the apps were still visible. If I use the same QR profile for all devices, can I later separate them by department and push different policies?

Hi @elliot,

The same QR enrollment profile can be reused to enroll multiple Android Enterprise devices. The enrollment profile controls how the device gets enrolled, but policy assignment can be handled separately after enrollment.

Common ways to assign or change policies are:

– Go to Policies, open the required policy, then use Policy Targets to add specific devices.
– Create device groups under Manage > Device Groups and assign policies to those groups.
– Open a device from Manage > Devices and use the Policies tab to view or modify the policies associated with that device.

If any of these settings are disabled or cannot be modified, it usually means the option is restricted in the current subscription plan. In that case, the feature must be available in the plan before those settings can be configured.
