Android kiosk status bar pull-down not blocked in HexnodeSolved

I’m setting up Android kiosk mode and trying to block the pull-down menu/quick settings panel where users can toggle Wi-Fi and other options. I tried the settings under Policies > Kiosk Lockdown > Peripheral Settings, and Lock Task Mode looked like the right option, but it didn’t seem to have any effect on our devices.

Most of the peripheral restrictions are either partially working or not working at all. Could this be a device limitation, or does Android need some kind of root/system access for Hexnode to block the status bar properly?

Hi @oliver_p ,

Lock Task Mode and complete kiosk-level restrictions on Android require the device to be enrolled in Android Enterprise Device Owner mode.

If the device was enrolled as a legacy Android device, or by manually installing the Hexnode UEM app from Google Play and enrolling normally, Lock Task Mode will not function as expected. In that enrollment mode, Android does not grant Hexnode the device-owner privileges required to fully control kiosk restrictions such as blocking the status bar or quick settings panel.

Also check the kiosk policy setting below:

  1. Go to Policies > Kiosk Lockdown > Peripheral Settings.
  2. Locate Enable Status Bar.
  3. Make sure Enable Status Bar is unchecked/disabled.
  4. Save the policy and allow it to sync with the device.

If the device is not enrolled as Android Enterprise Device Owner, re-enrollment will be required. This usually involves wiping the device and enrolling it during the initial setup using one of the Android Enterprise enrollment methods, such as QR code enrollment or the afw#hexnodemdm method.

Is Hexnode For Work the recommended app for these devices now? I’m assuming the older Hexnode MDM app is mainly for legacy enrollment.

For Android Enterprise Device Owner enrollments, Hexnode For Work is the recommended app for management. If you use remote management features, Hexnode Assist is used alongside it.

The older Hexnode MDM app is intended for legacy/basic Android enrollments and is not used for full Android Enterprise Device Owner management. For kiosk deployments where strong restrictions are required, Android Enterprise Device Owner with Hexnode For Work is the recommended approach.
