Android Enterprise QR enrollment shows “Cannot set up now. Contact your IT admin”Solved

I’m trying to enroll additional Samsung rugged tablets into Hexnode after factory resetting them and using the 6-tap QR code setup method on the Android welcome screen. The first few devices were enrolled earlier without problems, but the new ones kept showing: “Cannot set up now. Contact your IT admin.”

This happened on more than one device model, so I wasn’t sure if it was a device issue, trial limitation, or something wrong with the QR code. I was scanning a QR code from the device enrollment area in the portal. After enrollment works, I also want to confirm whether kiosk mode, policies, and apps should apply automatically or if something else has to be done manually.

Hi @penelope,

For Android Enterprise – Device Owner enrollment using the 6-tap setup method, make sure the QR code is generated from the Android Enterprise enrollment section, not from a generic device enrollment page.

Use this path in the Hexnode portal: Enroll > Platform-Specific > Android > Android Enterprise

Then factory reset the Android device, tap the welcome screen 6 times, and scan the QR code from the Android Enterprise page. Scanning a QR code from the wrong enrollment section can cause setup to fail with messages such as “Cannot set up now. Contact your IT admin.”

Once the correct Android Enterprise QR code is scanned, the device should enroll as a Device Owner and the Hexnode for Work app should be installed automatically during setup.

Policies and apps will apply automatically only if you have configured automation or targeting that associates the required policies with newly enrolled devices.
