Android single app kiosk exit prompt not showing without Android EnterpriseSolved

I’m setting up an Android single app kiosk policy and running into two things:

1. I want to hide or disable the bottom navigation bar with the Home, Back, and Recent Apps buttons.
2. More importantly, I can’t exit kiosk mode while the single app is open. I enabled the option to exit kiosk while the app is open, but the exit prompt never appears because the app stays in the foreground and I can’t get back to the kiosk home screen to tap out.

The device is not enrolled as Android Enterprise device owner, so I’m trying to work around that limitation if possible. The navigation bar issue is less urgent, but I need a reliable way to exit single app kiosk.

Hi @finn,

For the navigation bar, the relevant setting is available under: Policies > Kiosk Lockdown > Android > Peripheral Settings > Advanced Lock > Lock Task Mode.

Enabling Lock Task Mode helps restrict system bars in Android kiosk mode. However, without Android Enterprise device owner enrollment, Android may not allow Hexnode to fully remove or suppress the bottom navigation bar on all devices. Full control over system navigation is generally more reliable when the device is enrolled as Android Enterprise device owner.

For the single app kiosk exit issue, the behavior is expected in many non-AE setups. The kiosk exit prompt is triggered by multiple taps on the kiosk home screen. In single app kiosk mode, the managed app launches directly and the kiosk home screen is not accessible, so the tap gesture cannot be performed once the app is already open.

A practical workaround is to restart the device. After restart, there is usually a short buffer before the single app kiosk launches. During that buffer, perform the kiosk exit tap gesture to bring up the exit prompt.
