Android app install stuck in Initiated on Generic Android enrollmentSolved

I’m setting up Hexnode for Android devices for the first time and pushed an enterprise app to a device, but the install status stays at Initiated. The device is enrolled as Generic Android. Is that why the app is not installing silently?

Also, I created a device group and want to install the same app on all devices in that group, but I don’t see an install app option directly inside the group. What’s the correct way to bulk install apps?

Hi @skyler,

For Android devices enrolled as Generic Android, apps assigned from the Hexnode portal will not be installed silently in the background. Silent app installation is supported only when the device is enrolled through Android Enterprise.

For a Generic Android enrollment, the user must install the assigned app manually from the device:

  1. Open the Hexnode app on the Android device.
  2. Open the left-side menu, and go to Apps.
  3. Tap Install next to the assigned application.

If you want apps to install silently without user interaction, enroll the device using Android Enterprise instead of Generic Android.

For bulk app deployment,

  1. On the Hexnode UEM portal, navigate to Policies.
  2. Create or edit an Android policy.
  3. Navigate to App Management > Required Apps.
  4. Add the required enterprise app.
  5. Associate the policy with the device group.
  6. Or, you can navigate to Manage > Groups > Device Groups, choose the required device group, and select Actions > Applications > Install application.

Once the policy is applied, the app will be deployed to all devices in that group. On Android Enterprise devices, supported apps can be installed silently.
