WhatsApp stuck in update loop on iPhone managed by HexnodeSolved

One of our managed iPhones has WhatsApp stuck in a weird loop. When the user opens WhatsApp, it says an update is required. But when they tap Update, it redirects back to Open, and opening it shows the update prompt again.

I assumed Hexnode would handle app updates automatically for managed apps. The iPhone itself says iOS is up to date, so I’m not sure if this is an iOS issue or just WhatsApp not updating properly. What’s the best way to force the app update from Hexnode?

Hi @mo-chou,

This can happen if the App Store update state on the device does not refresh correctly, even though the app is managed through Hexnode.

To force the managed app update from Hexnode, try reinstalling/updating the app through a remote action:

  1. Open the device page in the Hexnode portal.
  2. Go to Actions > Applications > Install application.
  3. Select WhatsApp, and click Install.
  4. After the install command is completed, run Actions > Scanning & Monitoring > Scan Device.

The Install application action prompts the device to install the latest available version of the selected managed app. The Scan Device action then refreshes the device inventory and app status in Hexnode. After both actions complete successfully, ask the user to reopen WhatsApp and check whether the update prompt is cleared.
