Clear web app data and Outlook credentials in Android kiosk modeSolved

I’m managing an Android tablet in kiosk mode and had two related questions.

For a web app added to kiosk, is there a way to clear web app data like cache, cookies, web storage, or browsing history from Hexnode?

Also, with the Microsoft Outlook Android app, using clear app data/cache signs out the current account, but when I try to add an account again, the previously used account still appears and seems to have the credentials saved. There’s no app configuration deployed for Outlook, but Microsoft Authenticator is installed on the device.

Is clearing Outlook app data supposed to remove the account completely, or do I need to remove it from Android somewhere else?

Hi @roosevelt,

For the web app part, this can be handled from the kiosk policy.

Go to the Android kiosk policy and open the Website Kiosk settings. In the Advanced Website Kiosk Settings, look for the Browsing History section and enable the required options:

– Clear cache
– Clear cookies
– Clear web storage
– Clear browsing history

These options control what website kiosk data is cleared for the web app/browser session.

For Microsoft Outlook, clearing app data or cache only removes Outlook’s local offline data, such as downloaded mail, temporary files, and app-level settings. It does not necessarily remove the Microsoft account from the Android device.

Microsoft sign-in can be stored at the device account level through Android’s central Accounts manager. If Microsoft Authenticator is installed and using the same account, it may also retain the account/session and make it appear again during Outlook sign-in.

That explains the Outlook part. So if the account is stored at the Android level, how do I remove it completely? Do I need to exit kiosk mode first and go into the normal Settings app?

Hi @roosevelt,

If the Settings app is blocked by the kiosk configuration, you need to exit kiosk mode first or temporarily allow Settings in multi-app kiosk.

Then remove the account from Android directly:

1. Open Android Settings.
2. Go to Accounts or Users & accounts, depending on the device model.
3. Select the Microsoft account.
4. Tap Remove account or Delete account.

If the same account is signed in to Microsoft Authenticator, remove it there as well if you do not want it reused by Outlook or other Microsoft apps.

After this, clearing Outlook app data plus removing the Microsoft account from Android should prevent the previously signed-in account from appearing again automatically.
