Samsung Android tablet not entering Single-App Kiosk after QR enrollmentSolved

I am completely new to managing hexnode here. we recently enrolled a Samsung tablet using qr enrollment and the device shows up in the portal. The tablet kept showing a “disable battery optimization” prompt even after it was disabled, so we tapped Ignore and continued. now the device is just sitting in the Hexnode app, but we want it locked to our own app in Single-App Kiosk mode. This is only the second tablet we are adding, and since the previous admin set up the first one, we expected it to get the same kiosk setup automatically. i also could not find the Kiosk Lockdown section on the policy currently shown for the device. As a new admin, I am still figuring out where things are. What is the correct way to apply the single-app kiosk policy? Can this be automated for future android devices? Any guidance on managing these Android devices would be much appreciated.

Hi @luuk,

Welcome to the Hexnode UEM!

For the battery optimization prompt, you will first want to verify the setting in the Hexnode portal: Go to Admin > General Settings > Battery Optimization and disable the option to prompt users to disable battery optimization for the Hexnode Android apps.

If the device is already enrolled and you are able to proceed after tapping Ignore, the kiosk behavior is handled separately by the kiosk policy. The device will not automatically switch from the Hexnode app to your app unless a Single-App Kiosk policy is associated with that device. The policy should contain the required app under Kiosk Lockdown > Single-App Kiosk. If you cannot find Kiosk Lockdown in the currently assigned policy, the device may be associated with the wrong policy or no kiosk policy at all.

To check and assign the kiosk policy:

  1. Go to Manage.
  2. Open the enrolled Samsung device.
  3. Go to the Policies subtab.
  4. Check whether the correct kiosk policy is listed.
  5. If it is not listed, click Associate Policy.
  6. Select the policy that contains the Android Single-App Kiosk configuration.
  7. Click Associate.

For automation, QR enrollment enrolls the Android device into Hexnode, but policy assignment still depends on how the policy is targeted. To make the kiosk policy apply automatically to newly enrolled Android devices, you can use either of these methods:

Option 1: Assign the policy to a device group
If the policy is assigned to a group such as All Android Devices, matching Android devices will receive the policy automatically after enrollment.

Option 2: Create an automation

  1. Go to Automate.
  2. Click New Automation.
  3. In the basic details, add a name and select Android as the platform.
  4. In Actions, choose Associate Policy.
  5. Select the required Single-App Kiosk policy.
  6. In Trigger, choose Activity > Device Enrollment.
  7. In Target Filters, set Platform is Android.
  8. Save the automation.

Please reach out if you need any further assistance navigating the portal!

Best regards,
