Allow Android Settings access to change device password in Samsung Kiosk ModeSolved

I’m managing a Samsung tablet in Android Kiosk Mode and need users to be able to change the device login password. When they open Settings from the kiosk, it only shows a limited settings page, basically Bluetooth/peripheral settings, not the full Android Settings app.

The option to allow users to modify the device password already seems enabled under the kiosk policy, but users still cannot get to the normal password settings screen. I also see entries like Settings and Settings Suggestions while adding apps, so I’m not sure which one should be added to the kiosk.

Hello @margaret ,

In Android Kiosk Mode, Hexnode can show a limited Peripheral Settings screen instead of the full Android Settings app. That is why tapping Settings may only show options such as Bluetooth.

Settings Suggestions is a separate Android component and will not open the complete Settings menu. Also, adding the Settings app only as a background app will not make it available for users to launch from the kiosk.

To allow access to the full Android Settings app, add the actual Android Settings app to the Multi-App Kiosk list.

To identify the correct Settings app:

  1. Go to Manage.
  2. Open the enrolled device.
  3. Go to the Applications tab.
  4. Search for Settings.
  5. Enable or view the app identifier/package name.
  6. Look for the Android Settings app, commonly shown with the package identifier com.android.settings.

Then add that app to the kiosk policy:

  1. Go to Policies.
  2. Open the kiosk policy.
  3. Go to Multi-App Kiosk.
  4. Click Add app.
  5. Search for and add Android Settings / com.android.settings.
  6. Save the policy.

After that, users should be able to open the full Settings app from the kiosk and change the device password, provided your device password policy allows the change.
