I’m trying to identify a specific Android handset from the Hexnode portal by sending something that pops up on the device screen. I found the device under Manage and used the broadcast message action, and Hexnode lets me send the message, but nothing appears on the phone. The devices are running in kiosk mode. Is there a setting that needs to be enabled for broadcast messages to show on kiosk devices?

For Android devices, you can send a message from the Hexnode portal using the Broadcast Message action. To send a broadcast message:

  1. Go to Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the required device or devices.
  3. Click Actions.
  4. Choose Broadcast Message.
  5. Enter the message and send it.

If the device is not in kiosk mode, the message can usually be checked from the Hexnode UEM app under Messages. However, for Android kiosk devices, an additional kiosk policy setting may be required so that users can view messages sent from the admin console.

The action shows as sent from the portal, but there’s still no message on the phone screen. These phones are locked in kiosk mode, and the Hexnode UEM app isn’t visible to the user.

In that case, enable the Messenger option in the Android kiosk policy. Go to the associated kiosk policy and configure: Android Kiosk Lockdown > Peripheral Settings > Messenger. Enable View messages sent by the admin. After enabling it, save the policy and make sure the policy is associated with the target kiosk devices. Once the updated policy reaches the device, send the broadcast message again from the portal. This setting allows users on Android kiosk devices to view messages sent by the admin from the Hexnode console.
