Invalid credentials while setting up ODT in hexnodeSolved

I’m trying to configure okta device trust with hexnode, but hexnode keeps showing an “invalid credentials” error when I enter the client ID and client secret.

Okta is already integrated with Hexnode, and Okta Identity Engine with Fastpass is enabled. I also tried generating a new client ID and secret, but the same error appears. I’m not sure if I’m using the wrong credentials or entering them in the wrong place entirely.

I had the exact same confusion when I set this up. I was copying credentials from our existing Okta directory integration and pasting them into the device trust setup. That kept failing with the invalid credentials error.

What you actually need to do is go into your okta admin console and navigate to applications > api service integrations > add integration. Select Hexnode from that list. That generates the specific client ID and secret required just for device trust.

Hi @mike_johnson,

As @ace_98 mentioned, the “invalid credentials” error typically occurs when the Client ID and Client Secret entered in Hexnode do not match the credentials generated specifically for the Okta Device Trust integration.

Just to summarize the checklist to ensure the configuration connects successfully:

  1. Ensure Okta Identity Engine and Okta FastPass are enabled.
  2. Make sure you are configuring the dedicated Okta Device Trust integration page in Hexnode, not the general Okta directory integration page.
  3. Verify the correct Okta domain is selected.
  4. Use the Client ID and Client Secret generated directly from Applications > API Service Integrations > Hexnode in your Okta portal.

Please let us know if generating those new API service credentials resolves the error for you.
