Change Owner action greyed out for a macOS device in HexnodeSolved

I’m trying to change the owner of a managed MacBook in Hexnode from one user to another. The new user already exists in the portal, but the device owner change option is disabled, so I can’t assign the device to that user. Has anyone seen the Change Owner action become inactive like this?

To change the assigned user of a device, use the dedicated Change Owner action rather than editing the device details directly.

Steps:

1. Go to Manage > Devices.

2. Select the affected device.

3. Click Actions from the device details page.

4. Select Change Owner.

5. Search for the required user and click Assign.

Also confirm that the target user is already available under Manage > Users. If the Change Owner option itself is greyed out or inactive even when the user exists, this may indicate a portal-side UI issue rather than a macOS device issue.

The user already exists and I’m using Actions > Change Owner. The problem is that the function is disabled, so I can’t even start the owner change.

This behavior can occur due to a known portal-side discrepancy where the Change Owner action appears inactive even though the device and user are valid.

Once the portal is updated with the fix, sign out of the Hexnode portal and sign back in. Then open the device again and try:

Manage > Devices > (choose the device) > Actions > Change Owner

After the session refresh, the action should become available and the device can be reassigned to the required user. If it remains disabled after logging out and back in, the portal may need to be checked further.
