Missing App Catalog and Blocklist/Allowlist tabs when creating a new Android Kiosk policySolved

Hi everyone. I was setting up some new Android tablets for our storefronts and noticed something weird. When I look at our older Kiosk policies, they have App Management tabs like Blocklist/Allowlist and App Catalog available right there. But when I create a brand new Android Kiosk policy from scratch using the new workflow, those tabs are completely missing.

Is this expected behavior? Do I need to use a different template or a fully custom policy just to get the App Catalog option back?

Hello,

Thanks for reaching out to Hexnode Connect.

Yes, this is expected behavior and strictly depends on the method used to create the policy.

When you create a policy using the guided Android Kiosk template, the console streamlines the interface to display only the settings necessary for a basic kiosk lockdown. Because Kiosk mode inherently restricts the device to a predefined set of applications, broader App Management modules like Blocklists, Allowlists, and the App Catalog are intentionally hidden from this streamlined view to simplify the setup process.

To access the App Catalog within your policy, you have two approaches:

  1. Create a Blank Policy (or fully custom policy) from the policy creation menu. This exposes the entire suite of available policy modules across all categories.
  2. Clone one of your older, existing Kiosk policies that already contains the visible App Catalog configuration.

I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.

Thanks, George. That clears up the confusion. We don’t really care about the Blocklist in kiosk mode, but we definitely utilize the App Catalog.

If I decide to go the route of creating a completely blank, custom policy, is there a way to hide or remove the platform tabs we don’t use? We strictly manage iOS and Android, so having the macOS and Windows tabs sitting there is just extra visual clutter that might confuse my junior admins.

Hello,

Currently, platform tabs cannot be retroactively removed or hidden from a fully custom or blank policy. Once that custom policy framework is generated, the console displays the configuration structure for all supported operating systems.

However, leaving those unused tabs blank will not impact your deployments. When the policy is assigned, Hexnode only processes the payloads that are actively configured and relevant to the target device’s platform. Unconfigured sections for Windows or macOS are completely ignored by your Android fleet. Furthermore, the policy summary page will only display the settings you have actually configured, making it easy to review.

If visual clutter during the editing phase is a primary concern for your junior admins, cloning your older Kiosk policy that already features the App Catalog tab will likely be the cleanest workaround for your team.

I hope this helps. If you find any more issues or need further assistance feel free to reach out.
