Users can’t switch between W-Fi access points on managed Android devicesSolved

Hi, I’m experiencing issues with devices connected to my client’s Wi-Fi. The network has multiple access points with the same SSID and password.

Several users have reported that when they move between different areas of the building, their connection becomes weak or unstable. They’re unable to manually switch to a stronger access point.

I want users to manage Wi-Fi directly from the pull-down menu when needed. How can I enable it?

Hello @alice_grey

To enable users to manage Wi-Fi directly from the Quick Settings panel, verify the following:

1. Ensure Wi-Fi Configuration is enabled.

  • Navigate to Policies > Android > Restrictions > Advanced.

  • Under Allow Connectivity Options, ensure that Configure Wi-Fi is checked.

If this option is disabled, Android restricts Wi-Fi controls and prevents users from switching networks manually.

2. Ensure device settings can be modified.

  • Go to Policies > Android > Restrictions > Advanced.

  • Under Allow Settings, ensure that the Modify Settings option is enabled.

If this setting is disabled, users can view the system options, including Wi-Fi, but they cannot modify or interact with any of them.

3Apply the policy and test.

  • Apply the updated policy to a test device or small device group.

  • Ask users to pull down the notification shade and confirm they can now view and switch Wi-Fi networks.

Thanks, @isabel_lora that’s clear!

After enabling this, will the users be able to switch between different Wi-Fi access pointimmediately, or do devices need to refresh or restart?

Here’s how the update works after the policy:

  • In most cases, the change takes effect immediately after the policy is applied.

  • Some devices may take a few minutes to sync the updated policy from the Hexnode portal.

  • If the changes do not reflect right away, you can manually initiate a device sync from the console.

A device restart is usually not required, but it may help if the settings haven’t updated after syncing
