Hey all!

We updated an enterprise app on some of our Android device fleetBut the app fails to install on those devices

Any idea what could be causing this?

Hi @sebastin . How are you rolling out the app? APK upload or manifest URL?

We are using manifest URL method to upload the app.

Hi @sebastin

When updating Android Enterprise apps using the Manifest URL method, ensure that you add the direct download link to the APK file. If the APK cannot be directly accessed, the installation may fail.

Additionally, ensure that the Version Name and Version Code of the updated APK are higher than those of the previously deployed version. Android validates app updates using these values, and if they are not incremented, the update will be blocked during installation.

Makes sense. Where do we check these details in Hexnode?

Hi @mila_beck . You can check this directly from the App details in the Hexnode portal:

  1. Go to Apps and search for the enterprise app you want to update.

  1. Click on the app to view its details.

  1. Click the Settings dropdown (gear icon) on the App details panel.

  1. Select Edit to view the Manifest URL, Version Name, and Version Code.

Perfect, thanks!

The issue turned out to be the version code. It hadn’t been incremented in the updated APK. After fixing that and re-uploading the app, the update installed successfully.
