This is a sensitive situation, so it’s good that you’re asking before taking action.
First and most importantly: do not create a new APNs certificate using a different Apple ID, as that will break the trust relationship between Hexnode and all currently enrolled Apple devices. If a new certificate is generated instead of transferring the existing one, all previously enrolled devices will lose communication and will need to be re-enrolled.
To move the existing APNs certificate to a different Apple ID without impacting enrolled devices, you will need to contact Apple Support, preferably AppleCare Enterprise Support if your organization has access to it. Apple’s engineering team can transfer the APNs certificate to another Apple ID.
When contacting Apple, you should provide the following certificate details from the Hexnode portal:
- The certificate’s Unique Identifier (UID)
- The Common Name (CN)
- The Serial Number
These details help Apple identify the exact certificate to transfer.
Also note that transferring the certificate does not automatically renew it. Once the transfer is complete, you will still need to perform the renewal process separately using the new Apple ID.
Proceed carefully here. As long as you transfer the existing certificate instead of creating a new one, device communication with Hexnode will remain intact.
