Looking to deploy updates without getting in the user’s waySolved

Hey!

I’m looking to deploy patches to my Windows and macOS devices, but I want to make sure it doesn’t interrupt users while they’re working. How can I manage patch deployments, so they happen silently or during idle times, without affecting device activity?

Hello @elliot, great question!

You can schedule patch installation and reboots to occur only during the maintenance window while configuring the Patches and Updates settings. There’s an automation rule available under the Patches and Updates feature that handles this for you.

  1. For Windows devices: Updates and any required reboots are scheduled to occur only during non-active hours – times when the device is not being actively used by the user. You can configure this using the Windows Update Experience policy. If no active hours are specified, the system will follow the device’s default active hours.
  2. For macOS devices: Updates and reboots will occur only during the configured maintenance window. If none is set, the device’s default maintenance window will be used.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you have any other questions.
