One of our users had an issue with Microsoft Word where they could open a document but couldn’t edit it properly. Pushing an Install App action for Word from Hexnode fixed it, so it looks like the app was outdated. We use Apple Business Manager for app deployment. What’s the best way to keep Microsoft apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook updated automatically across managed devices instead of reinstalling them manually when someone reports a problem?

You can handle this by creating an app installation automation in Hexnode for the Microsoft apps you want to keep updated. Use the following workflow:
- Go to Automate.
- Select New Automation.
- Choose the Device platform.
- Select the Install apps action.
- Add the required Microsoft apps, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, or Teams.
- Configure the trigger based on how often you want the automation to run.
- Select the target devices or device groups.
- Save and run the automation.
When the automation runs, Hexnode pushes the selected apps to the targeted devices. For store apps deployed through Apple Business Manager, this helps ensure devices receive the latest available app version from the store, instead of requiring a manual reinstall each time an app becomes outdated.

Just to confirm, when creating the automation, should I be selecting a specific app platform or the device platform? I saw a reference somewhere that made this a bit confusing.

Select Device platform for this workflow. The automation is targeting managed devices and running an app installation action on them. After choosing Device platform, use Install apps, select the Microsoft apps, configure the trigger, and assign the device targets. That is the correct path for periodically pushing app installs or updates to managed devices.
