Can I automatically change android device ownership from personal to corporate when the SIM is removed?Solved

Here is the thing: we have a ton of Android devices being used by our employees. It was originally a semi-BYOD setup, so ownership was always marked as “Personal.” We have dynamic groups set up for both personal and corporate ownership.

We want the device ownership to change from Personal to corporate automatically when the SIM is removed (e.g., when an employee stops using the device and hands it back). Updating this manually is a huge pain. Is there a way to automate this?

Hi @stevenhere,

Thank you for reaching out! It is indeed possible to automate this workflow using our new Automation feature. Here is how you can set it up:

  1. Navigate to the Automate tab and select New Automation > New Automation > Android.
  2. Provide a Name and Description (optional) for the automation.
  3. In the Actions section, choose the Change Ownership action under Device Control.
  4. Set the ownership to Corporate, click Add, and then click Next.
  5. Under the Settings and Schedule section, set the Trigger to Activity.
  6. Under SIM, choose the Initiate as “On SIM Removal” option and click Next.
  7. In the Target Filters section, include your dynamic group that contains Android devices with Personal ownership.
  8. Review the automation details and click Save.

Once active, whenever a SIM is removed from one of those personal devices, the ownership will automatically flip to Corporate, which will then trigger their movement into your Corporate dynamic group.

Note: The device must have a stable network connection to communicate the SIM removal event to the Hexnode UEM server for the automation to trigger.

If you have any more questions, let me know!
