Remove pre-installed appsSolved

Looking for some tips on managing devices at work: Developer turned IT admin, fairly new to MDMs

We deploy a bunch of Android and iOS phones to our employees for work purposes, all these devices come with certain apps pre-installed on them. Deleting them from each device manually is a hassle I am not up for!

Just to clarify, do you want to delete or hide these apps? If you just want to restrict access to certain apps, go for kiosk mode, it’s super easy, barely an inconvenience… or you could just blacklist apps you don’t want to use.

I came across this help doc for iOS system apps: https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/remove-ios-apps-from-devices-using-hexnode-mdm/#remove-system-apps

You can apply this policy, and users can delete system apps manually from the device by default. But unfortunately, you can’t delete them from the portal.

For Android, nothing much you can do than blacklist them or use kiosk mode… Unless you want to root your devices. I have seen some forums mentioning removing systems apps without rooting using ADB, but I guess that’s not really what you are looking for…

We will cross that bridge when we get to it. Thanks for the assist. @Conner

We have also pushed apps for scanning documents, viewing PDFs, docs and spreadsheets. We have to keep reminding them to accept the prompt to install them from the App Catalog we push to the device. Is it possible to bypass this step. https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/mdm-app-catalog/

Actually, you could just push apps to the device as Mandatory apps if they are supervised for iOS or enrolled as Android enterprise devices. Apps will be silently installed on user devices, with no prompts and permissions.

Can we apply certain app settings to an application? It would be convenient to pre-configure the app and deliver it to the device. To save the end user having to search for these settings when they install the application, it would be ideal to push the settings file to the device.

Hi there,

Thank you for choosing Hexnode Connect!

You can certainly preconfigure app permissions and configuration before deploying. Follow these guides to preconfigure apps on iOS and Android devices before deploying them

https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/set-up-permissions-and-configurations-for-an-app-using-hexnode-mdm/

https://www.hexnode.com/mobile-device-management/help/how-to-configure-application-configuration-for-ios-and-android-devices-with-hexnode-mdm/

You can also use XML,plists and mobileconfig files to configure the app settings and push it to iOS devices. Here is a guide to custom configurations.
