Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

Apple Push Notification services (APNs) is a service by Apple that handles the communication between Apple devices and third-party services. For Hexnode to communicate with the device, the Hexnode server will at first send a notification to the APNs server, which in-turn will communicate to the device. The APNs acts as the gateway between the device and Hexnode. Thus, the APNs certificate is a must for the communication between the device and Hexnode.

Kindly use the link to know more about the same.

Cheers!

What happens if the APNs certificates are expired? Do we need to re-enroll the devices once again? Or will Hexnode continue managing them?

Hey, Thanks for reaching out to us.

No, once the APNs certificate has got expired, Hexnode will no longer be able to manage the Apple devices. The certificate is required to send the push notifications from the MDM server to the devices.
If the APNs certificate has expired, you will need to re-enroll the devices after renewing or creating a new certificate. If you renew the certificate before expiry, Hexnode will continue to manage the devices without any issue.

Check out the help doc on creating/renewing an APNs certificate for more info.

Cheers!
